The Importance of Natural SEO

Natural SEO is driven by good quality content and organic links.

The more organic your inbound links, the more important Google will deem your domain. Search engines rank websites on so many different variants, from the age of your domain to the usefulness of your content, the number of links pointing to your URL to the quality of these links – and more important than ever, is building an SEO campaign that’s as organic as possible.

The February 2010 Panda update resulted in a significant drop in rankings for many websites and the biggest casualties were the content and link farms where search engine optimisation overtook the importance of quality.

SEO can sometimes be broken down into three areas; black hat SEO, white hat SEO and the midway house that is known as grey hat SEO. Black hat methods are spammy and of bad practice while white hat methods are organic and ethical. Since the Panda update, where online traffic for most websites decreased somewhere between 20 and 80 percent, the biggest advice for 2011 is to avoid black hat SEO at all costs. White hat methods are not only more natural, but they have much more longevity and can encourage natural linking over a sustained period of time.

Natural SEO techniques include:

• Producing naturally written, engaging, thematic and well structured content for on-site optimisation.
• Engage in social media and get to know your customers. Social websites are great places to conduct research and to generate high-basket-value traffic.
• Conduct off-site optimisation to promote your business on other URLs. This is a great way to build relevant, high quality backlinks pointing to your website.
